Course Objective
The IPDRG Upskill Training Programme is designed for medical coding professionals who want to advance their knowledge in Inpatient Coding using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS, with a deep focus on MS-DRG/IR-DRG grouping and reimbursement logic.

By the end of this comprehensive program, participants will be able to:
- Accurately assign appropriate ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes for complex inpatient cases
- Master the application of coding guidelines specific to inpatient settings

Week 9-10: Chart Review & Real-time Coding
During these two weeks, students will engage in intensive hands-on practice with real inpatient charts, progressing from simple to complex cases. This critical phase transitions from theoretical knowledge to practical application in a supervised environment.
Daily Breakdown:
- Day 41-42: Simple case practice with basic medical conditions
- Day 43-45: Intermediate complexity cases with multiple diagnoses
- Day 46-47: Advanced case studies with comorbidities
- Day 48-50: Complex cases requiring detailed clinical correlation
Key Focus Areas:
- Neoplasms: Coding primary and secondary malignancies, complications of treatment
- Cardiac Procedures: CABG, valve replacements, catheterizations with proper sequencing
- Neurological Cases: Stroke, neurosurgical interventions, traumatic brain injuries
- Obstetrics: Delivery complications, cesarean sections, antepartum conditions
- Transplant Procedures: Pre-op evaluations, procedures, and post-transplant complications
Students will apply their knowledge of DRG assignments, make revisions based on clinical documentation, and understand the clinical correlation between diagnoses and procedures. This module builds critical thinking skills essential for accurate reimbursement optimization.

By the end of week 10, participants will be able to:
- Independently code complete inpatient charts with 90% accuracy
- Identify documentation gaps affecting DRG assignment
- Demonstrate proper sequencing in complex clinical scenarios
- Apply clinical knowledge to validate coding decisions
During these intensive coding sessions, participants will work with authentic redacted medical records that represent the full spectrum of inpatient care. Instructors will provide real-time feedback and guidance as students navigate through:
- Admission documentation review
- Progress notes and consultation reports
- Discharge summaries and post-discharge documentation
- Procedure reports and operative notes
- Laboratory and diagnostic findings relevant to coding
Each day concludes with a collaborative review session where challenging cases are discussed in detail. This allows students to learn from peer experiences and develop a comprehensive understanding of diverse clinical scenarios.
Special attention is given to documentation integrity and its impact on the final DRG assignment. Students will learn to identify clinical indicators that support the coded diagnoses and procedures, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines.
